Hotel Review: Kimpton Armory Hotel Bozeman, MT

A stylish hotel lobby with modern wood accents, large windows letting in natural light, and a mix of cozy seating including leather chairs, velvet armchairs, and contemporary stools. A guitar rests in the corner near a writing desk, and a fireplace with plants adds a warm touch to the far end of the room.

If you’re searching for the perfect stay in Bozeman, Montana that mixes boutique charm with Montana’s rugged spirit, then you’re probably eyeing the Kimpton Armory Hotel. And I am here to tell you that it is worth the hype!

On a recent girls’ trip to Bozeman, a friend and I stayed at the Kimpton Armory Hotel for a couple of nights and we both absolutely loved it! From comfortable and stylish rooms to fantastic food and amazing views, the Kimpton Armory Hotel Bozeman left little room for disappointment.

So let’s get into my review of the hotel, plus a guide for what to expect if you book a stay there!

My Kimpton Armory Hotel Review

Let’s start with my general review first. Yes, 100% I loved this hotel and would stay here again!

Is that enough for you? No? Ok…a few more details.

The Kimpton Armory Hotel Bozeman is so stylish and chic and yet at the same time embraces the outdoor spirit Montana is known for, and I loved that about this hotel. This is exactly my vibe honestly…a little fancy, but not too serious.

The room was so comfortable. Like, really…I got some of the best sleep here I had gotten in MONTHS thanks to a comfortable mattress and a pillow menu that allowed me to pick the perfect pillow.

And the food here? Really great too. I’m a Southern girl, so it surprises me to say that I had some of the best cornbread of my life at their main restaurant.

So overall was it a great stay? Absolutely yes!

Have I convinced you already? Book your room!

The only con? The price. This property can be a little pricey, with average nightly rates hovering around $300. And at certain times, prices can even creep up closer to $500. So this hotel may be a little bit of a splurge (or a great place to try to use your IHG points!).

A minimalist hotel wall display featuring three door hangers with messages like "Choose to Conserve," "Pet in Room," and "I'd Like to Get Some Sleep Before I Travel," hung on black and leather hooks. A felt wall pocket holds a colorful landscape-themed brochure, and a small framed artwork above shows a figure in traditional attire.
I thought this little cowboy print in our room was so cute! And the magazine hanging from the rack is a full guide to Yellowstone!

Overview of the Kimpton Armory Hotel Bozeman

Before we get into specifics, lets talk about some general things to know about the Kimpton Armory Hotel Bozeman.

Kimpton Armory Hotel Location

The hotel is located on W. Mendenhall Street, right in the heart of downtown Bozeman.

From the Bozeman Yellowstone International Airport it’s about a 20 minute drive. And if you’re planning to stay here before or after a visit to Yellowstone, it’s an hour and a half drive between the hotel and the Mammoth Hot Springs near the North Entrance.

Personally, I thought the location was fantastic! We were able to walk to so many great shops and restaurants downtown, and we had some great views of the city and the mountains.

Why Bozeman?

But why visit Bozeman at all? Lots of people fly into Bozeman on their way to Yellowstone National Park.

But Bozeman is a city worth visiting in its own right. You can go shopping downtown, eat some great food, enjoy some local hikes, soak in the Bozeman Hot Springs, and so much more!

If you’re coming into Bozeman on your way somewhere else, I definitely encourage you to make it more than just a stopover. It’s a spot worth spending some time in!

Lobby & Check-In

A cozy hotel lounge corner with leather seating, a wood coffee table holding a guest book, and a warm-toned acoustic guitar resting on a small side table between tall windows with sheer curtains. The space is accented with soft lighting and natural textures.
This lobby was so chic yet comfy.

Let’s start with the lobby and the check-in process!

The Kimpton Armory Hotel made everything super smooth, the staff was very friendly, and our room was even ready early! (Of course, this isn’t guaranteed).

After we got settled, we actually spent a little time in the lobby enjoying their evening social hour, where they offer free wine and appetizers.

And y’all, I really loved this lobby. It had a fireplace and comfy chairs which really gave it the prefect cozy mountain cabin vibes, but upscale.

There were also lots of musical touches in the lobby. They are very into music here, partially on account of their on-site music venue, Armory Music Hall.

Parking

What about parking at this hotel? The hotel offers valet parking for a nightly fee of $45.

There isn’t any on-site self parking, but there are some nearby city parking lots and garages.

There were two small parking lots right next to the hotel that were free for two hours, so when we were just coming in and out of the hotel between our activities we just used these, and the used the valet once we knew we were in for the day.

There is also a parking garage just down the street that offered paid, all-day parking.

One note though: We were there during an off-season. Things were NOT crowded at all (this was mid to late October). So these parking lots may be harder to find room in during more crowded times.

Kimpton Armory Hotel Rooms

A bright and modern hotel room featuring two neatly made queen beds with white linens, a shared nightstand with water bottles and glasses, and soft ambient lighting behind a brown leather headboard. Natural light filters in through sheer curtains covering a large window.
Our super spacious and comfy double queen room.

I LOVED our room at this hotel! It was very clean and very upscale and so comfortable! Like seriously, that mattress plus my pillow combination was perfection.

We stayed in a two-queen room and it had plenty of space (enough for me to even lay down on the floor and do some physical therapy exercises for my back). There was also a desk with a desk chair, a small upholstered bench, and a large TV.

The bathroom was nice too. It had plenty of room, and if I had to be nitpicky my one complaint was that it didn’t have the toilet in a separate room. The layout of the bathroom is very much standard hotel with upgraded finishings.

Extra In-Room Amenities

Every room has some extra in-room amenities too:

  • Yoga mat โ€” As part of their wellness program, each room comes with a yoga mat.
  • Pillow menu โ€” Order a pillow off the pillow menu for your perfect night sleep! I will say from experience though that the Buckwheat Pillow is pretty weird.
  • In-room coffee โ€” You can request Illy’s coffee in your room.

Dining at the Kimpton Armory Hotel

The dining at the Kimpton Armory Hotel really is fantastic! We ate at two of the restaurants and had great experiences!

Fielding’s

A stylish restaurant interior featuring green booth seating, dark wood tables set with glassware and black napkins, and modern brown chairs along a patterned tile floor. The open kitchen is visible in the back, and soft lighting enhances the cozy yet upscale atmosphere.
I loved the vibes at Fielding’s!

Fielding’s is the main dining room off the lobby, and it’s also where you can get breakfast (at an extra charge) each morning.

Because we had had a long travel day when we arrived, we opted for just eating at the hotel for dinner and I’m so glad we did! Because this is the place where I had some of the best cornbread I had ever had in my life! And everything else we had for dinner was great too. (I had the burger and it was very good! Nothing amazing, but still solid.)

A golden, rectangular skillet cornbread topped with flaky sea salt, served in a cast iron pan on a wooden board. A small metal cup of whipped butter or spread sits on a side dish with a butter knife beside it.
This cornbread was amazing! We got the chili honey butter on the side because we weren’t sure how spicy it would be. It wasn’t too spicy, but I liked the cornbread better without it.

They also mixed me up a fantastic mocktail just based on some flavors I liked. They didn’t have a mocktail menu when we visited, but they were working on creating one when I was there and we talked to the bartender about it.

A pink cocktail served over ice in a short, faceted glass. The drink is garnished with a sprig of fresh rosemary and a black paper straw, sitting on a sleek, dark marble bar top.
This off-menu mocktail they made for me was amazing!

We also had breakfast here one morning, and again, the food was great. The Cinnamon-Sugar Donut Holes tasted just like little churros, and I also loved the French Toast Casserole. Can you tell I’m a sweets-for-breakfast kind of person?

Tune Up

Tune Up is the whisky bar located in the basement. It’s super popular and has live music each night from Wednesday to Saturday. They have all kinds of cocktails (and some mocktails!) plus some bar food like Soft Pretzel Bites and Nashville Hot Chicken Tenders.

We checked it out during the day when it was closed, but unfortunately didn’t make it down here for the music and drinks (honestly, probably because of the rooftop pool was calling our name instead).

Sky Shed

A cozy outdoor dining setting featuring a fire pit with visible blue flames. In the foreground, there are plates of food: one with tacos topped with slaw and another with roasted potatoes and vegetables. In the background, cushioned patio seating and string lights create a warm, inviting ambiance.
Enjoying our tapas at Sky Shed by the fire!

Sky Shed is the rooftop bar and restaurant and it’s lovely! It has great views of the city, and even on a cold night we sat out by the firepit and enjoyed a meal.

They have lots of cocktails and mocktails to choose from here, so this is definitely the place I’d go for cocktail hour.

The food here is more tapas-style, with plates made for sharing. And everything we had was really good! We had the Patatas Bravas, the Birria Empanada (my favorite!), and the KFC Tacos (probably our least fave, but I think it’s actually really popular!).

Snow Shed

Snow Shed is a seasonal pop-up dining event during the winter at Sky Shed. Here you can get cozy on the rooftop in a warm enclosed space (but you still get the views!) and a fine dining menu.

You’ll get a three course, family-style menu complete with wine selections. If you want to dine here, definitely plan to make a reservation!

This wasn’t going on yet while we were there, but if I was visiting in the winter this is definitely something I would love to do!

Hotel Amenities

A rooftop pool with sparkling blue water and clear safety railings overlooks a scenic mountain range and a mix of urban and natural landscapes below. The view features rolling hills, modern buildings, and a bright blue sky with wispy clouds.
I loved this rooftop pool so much!
  • Rooftop Pool โ€” This may be my favorite amenity of the hotel! It’s a gorgeous rooftop pool that overlooks the mountains and it’s heated! So we enjoyed a warm swim on a crisp October night under the stars and it was fantastic!
  • Fitness Center โ€” These is a 24-hour fitness center that includes has Peleton bikes.
  • Evening Social Hour โ€” A free social hour is offered each night, where you can get some appetizers and wine.
  • Morning Coffee โ€” Even though they don’t have free breakfast here, there is a small event each morning that offers free coffee, tea, and hot chocolate.
  • Complimentary outdoor gear โ€” If you’re planning to explore the surrounding area, you can borrow certain outdoor items from the front desk like snowshoes and sleds. We borrowed bear spray for free, which was perfect because it would have felt silly to pay to rent it for the one short hike we did. (Even though we almost did see a bear!)
  • Complimentary bikes โ€” This is a seasonal offering, but there are bikes you can borrow from the hotel to bike around town on.
  • Pet-Friendly Accommodations โ€” This is a pet-friendly hotel! And even better…there’s no weight limit and no extra fees. Honestly, I feel like that’s pretty rare to see! (Even the AC Hotel nearby has a $50 per night pet fee.)
A group of vintage-style red bicycles with brown leather seats and white-walled tires is parked indoors, each equipped with a front basket. One bike has a sign reading, "TAKE ME, Iโ€™M YOURS," offering complimentary use. Helmets are available in the baskets, and a decorative guitar hangs on the wall in the background.
You can borrow this bikes from the hotel to scoot around town on!
